A JPMorgan Chase buyer has been swindled out of over $35,000 by scammers posing because the financial institution’s anti-fraud officers and the FBI.
Illinois resident Jennifer Lichthardt says she feels violated after criminals used a spoofing scheme to persuade her to switch $35,000 to a Chase account managed by the scammers, studies ABC 7 Chicago.
All of it started when Lichthardt answered a name that displayed on her mobile phone as her financial institution’s quantity.
Says Lichthardt,
“It was the quantity on the again of my Chase debit card, and it mentioned Chase Fraud Division…

The scammers satisfied her that the FBI and Chase’s anti-fraud officers had been investigating the financial institution’s personal workers accessing buyer accounts and that she wanted to switch her cash to maintain it protected.
She adopted the scammers’ directions and transferred $35,000 into a brand new “secured Chase account” at her native department and hundreds of {dollars} to a different on-line financial institution.
The scammers withdrew the funds as soon as they had been deposited, in line with the financial institution.
Chase says in a press release,
