The U.S. Division of Justice says an insider at a serious US financial institution fueled a billion-dollar fraud scheme that stole the identities of over 1,000,000 Individuals.
The DOJ says 36-year-old Renat Abramov, a twin citizen of the US and Azerbaijan, has admitted to abusing his place as a relationship supervisor to open fraudulent accounts on behalf of a large felony enterprise.
In keeping with courtroom paperwork, Abramov opened accounts at Financial institution of America for a number of shell medical gear firms, bypassed know-your-customer protocols with solid paperwork, deposited fraudulent checks and laundered over $8 million in proceeds to offshore accounts and cryptocurrency wallets.
Prosecutors say his actions empowered the transnational felony group (TCO) which submitted greater than $10 billion value of fraudulent Medicare claims by stealing the identities of over a million Individuals, together with residents in all 50 states.
Abramov has pleaded responsible to conspiracy to commit cash laundering and faces as much as 20 years behind bars.
He’s scheduled to be sentenced on April twentieth.
